How To Apply For Financial Assistance After North Texas Storms

Storms earlier this week left many North Texas cities damaged. As residents begin thinking about repairs to their homes, some may qualify for financial assistance.

Residents of Collin, Cooke, Denton and Montague Counties in North Texas who have experienced storm damage can now apply for financial assistance through FEMA — assisting with costs such as temporary housing and emergency home repairs. Some may also qualify for aid covering medical expenses.

FEMA can assist with expenses that are not covered by insurance. If you lack insurance or have insufficient coverage, you may be eligible for assistance. While FEMA will not cover your insurance deductible, it will consider other expenses.

You can start your application here or through FEMA’s mobile app. The telephone helpline is answered from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. at 800.621.3362.

Once you apply for assistance, your request will be reviewed to determine if an inspection is necessary to verify disaster-related damage to your home and personal property. FEMA staff and inspectors may contact you to discuss the damage caused by the disaster.

FEMA may also request additional information to support your eligibility for assistance or address specific disaster-related needs identified in your application. If more information is required, you will receive a letter from FEMA detailing the necessary documentation.

Governor Greg Abbott announced the financial assistance was approved on May 28, 2024.

"FEMA's approval of four North Texas counties to the Presidential Disaster Declaration is an important step forward to help our communities recover from recent severe storms," said Governor Abbott. "We will continue working with our state, local, and federal partners to ensure all necessary resources, funding, and assistance are available to support Texans."

The Governor’s request for Individual Assistance is still under FEMA’s review for Austin, Bell, Coryell, Ellis, Henderson, Kaufman, Leon, Navarro, Newton and Tyler counties. Additional counties may be included in the request as further damage assessments are conducted in affected communities.
