Frisco Police Warn (Again!) Against Strange Jewelry Thefts

The Frisco Police Department is once again warning residents of jewelry thefts in the city. According to police, residents should remain vigilant when it comes to keeping valuables out of sight and reach from strangers.

“In recent days, the Frisco Police Department has taken multiple reports of unknown subjects approaching residents and removing their jewelry,” a Facebook post read from the police department.

But these incidents may not be anything new. Local Profile previously reported that in 2022, a series of strange jewelry thefts hit the North Texas city.

“I would say that it’s too early in our investigations to tell if the incidents are related,” Officer Grant Cottingham told Local Profile.” That being said, the MO does appear to be similar, which is the reason for us wanting to get the word out.”

According to a police report, in November 2022, Frisco police responded to a call near Regents Park. The victim was walking on the sidewalk when a dark-colored SUV pulled up. The male driver of the vehicle stated that his wife was pregnant and that he needed to find a hospital. The female passenger told the victim that she reminded her of her mother and gave her a gold ring and gold chain. When the victim tried to give the items back to the female suspect, she hugged the victim and removed the necklace the victim was already wearing. The vehicle then fled the location.

Police said multiple similar incidents occurred, in which, a heavy-set or pregnant white female passenger and a male driver described as a heavy-set, dark-skinned male in his 30s with short black curly hair approached the victims. The suspects involved appear to be targeting subjects wearing visible jewelry while walking and they use conversation to approach the targeted person. The victims in these offenses have been predominantly South Asian women in their 50s and 60s walking in neighborhoods wearing visible jewelry.

This is still an ongoing investigation and police ask for anyone with information to contact the Frisco Police Department at 972-292-6010. Tips can also be placed anonymously by texting FRISCOPD along with the information to tip411 or by downloading the Frisco PD app. If you feel you are in danger call 911.
