Allen Independent School District (Allen ISD) recently announced that Matthew McCoy, a senior at Allen High School, earned his private pilot license through the Naval STEM Flight Academy. Selected as one of 28 cadets nationwide, McCoy completed the prestigious eight-week program, becoming the fourth student from Allen High School to achieve this honor.

McCoy, who serves as the Cadet Commanding Officer of the Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (MCJROTC) at Allen High School, is also an active member of the Varsity Swim Team, the National Honor Society and Scout Troop 624, where he is an Eagle Scout.

“I’d like to thank the Naval STEM Coordination Office for this opportunity and challenge,” said McCoy in an official statement. “The flight academy was an experience to remember, and it has further invigorated my goal of flying for the Navy. I look forward to sharing this opportunity with many more qualified candidates.”

He also thanked Allen ISD for their support, “I would also like to thank Sgt. Maj. Cole and the Allen ISD Administration for their support of the MCJROTC Program at Allen High School,” said McCoy. “The addition of the Aviation Club and investment in the Flight Simulator gives AHS Navy Flight School candidates hands-on experience with aviation.”

Allen ISD celebrated McCoy’s accomplishment on their Facebook page, “Congratulations to Matthew McCoy on his outstanding accomplishment!”
