The Sky’s The Limit: Snack-Delivering Drones In Frisco Are Just The Beginning

Air fry takes on a whole new meaning

Why make a trip to the grocery store for a bag of chips when a drone flying at speeds up to 65 mph can deliver it to your doorstep in under 15 minutes? What once was more like a scene from The Jetsons is now a reality.

Drone delivery company Wing is partnering with Pepsi to bring snacks straight to Frisco residents just in time for Super Bowl weekend. And this is just the beginning of something much, much bigger.

Drone Dash: How Frisco Became A Delivery Pioneer

Wing set up a drone delivery hub at Frisco Station, a mixed-use development, and launched its service with Walgreens in late 2021, providing "store-to-door" delivery on the west side of the city. This initiative marked the first commercial drone delivery service in a major U.S. metropolitan area.

In August 2023, Wing expanded its service area to cover central and eastern Frisco, partnering with Walmart to extend its footprint across the Dallas-Fort Worth region. The first new location for this expanded service is the Walmart Supercenter at 8555 Preston Rd. in Frisco.

In December 2024, Wing Aviation revealed its partnership with DoorDash and Brookfield Properties to introduce ultra-fast drone delivery to North Texas. On Dec. 19, 2024, the service launched at Brookfield Properties’ Stonebriar Centre in Frisco and Hulen Mall in Fort Worth, making it the first of its kind to be offered at American shopping malls.

Now, over 50 merchants offer drone delivery via the DoorDash app. Wing’s advanced drones can deliver items and meals straight to your doorstep in as little as 15 minutes.

The Future of Drone Delivery in Collin County and Beyond

Drone deliveries in North Texas are poised for significant growth. Wing, a key player in this space, is planning a major expansion in 2025, scaling up its network and increasing availability.

Wing plans to broaden its package delivery services across North Texas this year. As part of this expansion, the company intends to grow its network of delivery nests from 25 to 75 in the region. These nests will be placed in commercially zoned areas like shopping centers, large retailers and malls, with more locations to be announced. Additionally, Wing aims to extend its operating hours, shifting from the current 7 p.m. end time to 10 p.m., while maintaining a 7 a.m. start each day.

However, University of North Texas electrical engineering professor Kamesh Namuduri believes delivery drones are just the start of a promising future for drones in North Texas.

“The next 5 years are going to be very exciting,” Namuduri told Local Profile. “The North Texas community is working towards bringing unmanned air taxis and air ambulances into our community. This project called Advanced Air Mobility led by NASA and FAA will literally create a new way of life for people. By 2030, air taxis are expected to become a reality.”

How To Order By Drone For The Super Bowl

While air taxis are still a few years away, Frisco residents can enjoy the benefits of smaller drones for food delivery now.

Ahead of the big game, Frisco residents can score a free PepsiCo party pack from Feb. 8–9, packed with snacks like Doritos, Tostitos dips and Pepsi Zero Sugar. Frisco residents can download the Wing app to make sure they’re able to claim their PepsiCo Party Pack. The app will tell you if your address is eligible.

“We are proud to collaborate with Wing to deliver the PepsiCo Party Pack in Frisco,” said PepsiCo Strategic Partnerships Senior Director Amanda DeVoe-Bice in an official statement. “This is an exciting opportunity to reimagine and demonstrate new ways of showing up to our consumers in a sustainable way, and enjoy their favorite PepsiCo products, without having to miss a moment of the game.”
