First Look: Flower Child Plano

Healthy dining is hard — even harder when your family eats differently or has specific dietary needs. But the newly opened Flower Child in Plano truly has something for every taste.

As someone who doesn’t eat meat, it’s difficult to find a restaurant that offers something vegan without sacrificing quality or paying a fortune — not to mention a restaurant that has good food for my meat-eating companions. Arizona-based Flower Child is the perfect spot to enjoy an entirely vegan or meat-based meal with multiple locations across the U.S.

The menu features a range of in-season salads, wraps, soups and entrees — with options for vegans and meat eaters alike. We opt for the build-you-own-bowl with tofu, Thai basil brussels sprouts and red chili glazed sweet potatoes, and a medium steak with roasted garlic smashed potatoes.

The restaurant itself is bright and clean with a more expensive feel, but the counter-ordering- style makes it more casual and relaxing. After ordering we find a table and sip on rose lemonade while families chat and dine.

The kid's menu features items for even the pickiest eaters. For $8.50, kids 12 and under can pick a protein (chicken, steak or tofu) and two sides: broccoli with parmesan, smashed potatoes, sweet corn and quinoa, mac and cheese or fresh fruit.

But of course, no meal is complete without dessert — and Flower Child ensures you don’t have to sacrifice delicious sweets for healthier options. Dessert offerings include dark chocolate chip cookies, sprouted almond chocolate pudding and lemon olive oil cake.

Flower Child is located at 2101 Preston Road, Suite A, Plano, open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
