On Dec. 16, 2024, Iker Sebastian Jaskille Castro, a student at Plano Senior High, was presented with the 2024 Citizen Hero Award by Chief of Police Ed Drain in recognition of his remarkable bravery during a high-risk police intervention.
Surrounded by family and friends, Castro was commended for his quick thinking and selfless actions in helping to safely apprehend a dangerous, reckless driver on Oct. 4, 2024.
A Dangerous Pursuit
The incident unfolded when Officer Landrum of the Plano Police Traffic Unit attempted to stop a vehicle traveling at speeds up to 90 mph in a 40 mph zone, weaving dangerously between lanes. As the situation escalated, Castro, without hesitation, decided to intervene.
Quick Action And Courage
Despite the inherent risks, Castro acted swiftly to assist Officer Landrum in bringing the vehicle to a safe stop, putting his own safety — and even his personal property — at risk. His courageous decision to act, in a moment when many would have chosen to remain uninvolved, highlighted his exceptional commitment to public safety and community welfare.
“Mr. Castro's actions exemplify the very best of community spirit, demonstrating that ordinary citizens can make extraordinary contributions in times of crisis,” reads an official statement shared by the Plano Texas Police Department.

In honor of his courage, Castro was presented with the Citizen Hero Award, a distinction that recognizes individuals who demonstrate extraordinary acts of bravery to protect others.
