Kroger is set to open a new 123,000-square-foot Marketplace store in Melissa, Texas, marking the city’s first grocery store and the company’s first new location in North Texas since 2019.
The store, located at 2721 Sam Rayburn Highway, will officially welcome shoppers on Oct. 18, 2024, at 6 a.m., following a performance by the Melissa High School marching band and cheer team. This new location will offer over 35,000 fresh and affordable products, enhancing local access to groceries and everyday essentials.
The day before the public opening, Kroger will host a private ribbon-cutting ceremony on Oct. 17, featuring remarks from Keith Shoemaker, president of Kroger’s Dallas Division, and other local officials, including Melissa Mayor Jay Northcut and representatives from state and federal government. As part of Kroger’s Zero Hunger Zero Waste initiative, donations will be made to local hunger relief organizations, including North Texas Feed the Need, Feed My Sheep and Grace Place Food Pantry.
As previously reported by Local Profile, in September of last year, Kroger broke ground on a new 50-acre Kroger Marketplace in Plano, Texas, which will replace the current store located across the street. The new store will be significantly larger, offering 124,000 square feet of space and creating 100-150 new jobs in the community. Features will include a Starbucks, Murray’s cheese counter, a fuel center, a pharmacy and general merchandise. The store is the second of three new marketplaces Kroger is building in North Texas.
