The Brixton, known for their live music scene and bar food that’s much better than bar food, has debuted a brand new brunch menu.

Enjoy $2 mimosas and $6 flavored mimosas that are poured generously. I tried the raspberry, and it was delicious; not too sweet and mostly champagne which is exactly how I like them. Or go ahead and split a pitcher with friends for only $18! They also have special Brunch Punches also served by the glass and by the pitcher.

The first dish I tried was the Chicken and Waffles, one of their specialties and my favorite flavor of the day. Four pieces of tempura beer battered fried chicken are served on top of pieces of Belgian waffle with blueberry jam and a side of cinnamon syrup and Champagne Whip.

This dish is great because it’s easy to share with friends as an appetizer, and it’s easy to finish the whole thing by yourself. The blueberry jam adds a touch of sweetness to the chicken and is great with a dollop of the Champagne Whip. The chicken isn’t too greasy and doesn’t overpower any of the other flavors; the waffle was perfectly cooked. All in all, a solid pick to pair with a morning of mimosas.

Next up is the Triple B Burger: beef patty with Thick-Cut Nuskie Bacon, beer braised onions, beer cheese sauce, and a fried egg all on a toasted English muffin. This burger is truly meant for brunch. The extra large English muffin bun and runny fried egg really make it feel like a breakfast dish. The burger is incredibly messy but absolutely worth it.

It’s served with a side of breakfast potatoes which are cut into cubes and seasoned with mixed peppers and onions. These potatoes are cooked perfectly; crunchy on the outside but with plenty of soft, warm potato on the inside. The veggies on top give it an excellent flavor, so you don’t need to drown these potatoes in ketchup. Dip them in the Brixton’s “tricked out” version of ranch, a tarragon cream sauce.

Last is the Cajun Shrimp and Grits. This dish is also easy for sharing as it’s beautifully served in three portions. Chili Lime Grilled Shrimp with blackened cream sauce on top of crispy, fried cheddar quinoa cakes topped with shaved Parmesan and green onions.

If you like the State Fair of Texas for it’s fried-twist on classic foods, this will be right up your alley. The quinoa cakes are crispy on the outside with a little soft cheesiness in the middle. Two shrimp served on top and doused in sauce make it easy to eat this up in just a few bites.

With a huge TV and plenty of great seating, The Brixton is the perfect place for a large brunch party or to watch some Sunday morning football. Brunch is served 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and their “Not Brunch” menu is served all day.
