Plano teachers have made PISD one of the most respected and loved school districts in the nation. They work round the clock to make sure our students are getting the best possible education. This even extends to spending their well-earned paychecks on extra school supplies.

A recent survey of Plano ISD teachers showed that almost 50% of them spend more than $250 a year out of their own pockets on classroom supplies. 15% are spending more than $500 a year on extra supplies for their students. “Teachers do this because they know having the needed school supplies helps students feel confident and leads to better performance in the classroom,” said Jean Callison, immediate past president of the Plano ISD Education Foundation’s board and chair of the CORE Store committee.

The Plano ISD Education Foundation opened the CORE (Classroom Resource for Education) Store this fall. Here, teachers can shop in a pinch for additional school supplies for their students. At any point in the school year, teachers can stop by and pick up whatever supplies they need for their students. Best of all, it comes at no extra cost to them. September 7, there was a grand opening and ribbon cutting celebrating. Since then, teachers have been able to shop by appointment in preparation for the Fall 2016 semester.

“It is so exciting to see this store become a reality,” said Jean Callison. “This store will help teachers fill in the gaps where their students’ families cannot afford. It is another way as a community that we can support our teachers and students.”

Plano ISD corporate partners Capital One and Kroger are leading the community in organizing supply donations to help fill the shelves of the store. The store is located in space donated by Medical Center of Plano.

The CORE Store located at 3900 West 15th St., Ste. 102, Plano, TX 75075.
