Dig those boots out of your closet and don your cowgirl hat. The Newcomer Friends of Greater Plano is hosting a free western-themed Activity Fair on Tuesday, September 13. The annual brunch and fair showcases nearly 30 activity groups—the heart of the club—where ladies enjoy games, crafting, dining out and in, and exploring all that DFW has to offer.

Skip Hollandsworth

This year’s keynote speaker is American author, journalist, screenwriter and Texas Monthly editor Skip Hollandsworth. During his tenure with the magazine, Skip has received several journalism awards. His ability to weave facts into a compelling and even humorous story was evident in the 2011 movie “Bernie,” (which he co-wrote with Richard Linklater) and is based on his January 1998 story, “Midnight in the Garden of East Texas.” His book, The Midnight Assassin, is a true story about a series of murders that terrorized Austin beginning in December of 1884. The Midnight Assassin, was recently published in April 2016.

If you’ve been wondering what Newcomer Friends of Greater Plano is all about, this is the perfect time to meet the group…and bring a friend! Do you like to read, or do you want to learn a new craft? Are you a foodie? Several groups are available for fun and fellowship. If you prefer games, four groups offer those. Are you interested in becoming more active?  Come and learn about the club’s golf and walking groups. Or, if winding down is your thing, there’s even a wine group.
