For anyone that has experienced an H-E-B/Central Market grocery store, the importance of the chain talking about expanding real estate in the DFW Metroplex is an obvious and exciting thing. It’s the largest Texas grocery chain and it has now acquired 6 Sun Fresh Markets; 4 –located in Dallas and the other two stores are in McKinney and Grapevine.

The company’s priority in the DFW Metroplex remains with Central Market, therefore, it’s not yet clear whether the Sun Fresh locations will become Central Market’s, H-E-B stores or neither of the two.

“At this time, Central Market continues to be the primary format for the Dallas-Fort Worth,” said Todd Piland, H-E-B executive vice president of real estate in a statement. “We are currently evaluating the feasibility of each site to determine the most effective use of the properties.”

The six locations acquired include:

  • McKinney, at Hardin Boulevard and El Dorado Parkway
  • Grapevine, at State Highway 121 and Hall Johnson Road
  • Uptown Dallas, at McKinney Avenue and Lemmon Avenue
  • Preston Hollow in Dallas, at Northwest Highway and Midway Road
  • Lake Highlands in Dallas, at Northwest Highway and Ferndale Road
  • Lakewood in Dallas, at Mockingbird Lane and Abrams Road

The four Dallas locations were previously Albertsons, bought out by Minyard Sun Fresh just last year. They will shut down September 1.
