This week, we highlight the Plano Animal Shelter challenges. The Animal Services Department partners with Plano’s citizens, veterinarians and animal welfare organizations to promote responsible pet ownership. They also provide animal and human health, welfare and protection services. The Animal Shelter takes in and adopts out dogs and cats of every breed, size, color and age that are in need of a loving home. On occasion, you’ll even find furry friends such as rabbits, birds, ferrets and other small pets for adoption. Join us as we Explore Plano this week with the Plano Animal Shelter challenges below:

CHALLENGE 1: HELP FIND A FURR-EVER HOME FOR A FURRY FRIEND

Thanks to the help of our Plano citizens, the Plano Animal Shelter was able to successfully place 132 animals into loving homes during the Clear Shelters Day earlier this month. However, there are still a lot of animals in need of forever homes. Your challenge, if you choose to accept, is to help find one of the Plano Animal Shelter’s furry friends a forever home. You can simply complete this challenge by taking a photo of a shelter animal and posting it to social media for your social network to see. Chances are, one of your friends, fans or followers may be already on the hunt for a new pet. Don’t forget to use hashtag #exploreplano!

CHALLENGE 2: DECORATE A KENNEL WINDOW

Express and show off your creative side by creating a piece of artwork to display next to a kennel at the Animal Shelter. Stop by and drop off your pre-made artwork to help attract attention to one of the animals up for adoption. Post a photo of you and your artwork when you get to the Plano Animal Shelter on social media with hashtag #exploreplano.

CHALLENGE 3: DONATE A BAG OF TREATS OR TOYS

Donations to the Plano Animal Shelter are always welcome as they help provide an even more pleasant experience for the animals during their stay. The Animal Shelter accepts donations such as treats, toys or even a soft bed. Not only will you feel great by doing a good deed but you’ll also be able to write it off as a tax exemption! Other creative ways are making a kitty fort or other craft projects.

Check back next week as we highlight the City of Plano’s 9-1-1 Call Center challenges. Challenges include learning how to stay safe with the Teach 9-1-1 app and how to be better prepared for an emergency. As always, share your progress with us on social media with hashtag #exploreplano.
