"Chalk Talk" Session in Frisco to cover concussions and sports safety

Concussions can occur in any sport or recreational activity at any age and usually do not involve a loss of consciousness. In fact, what used to simply be called “getting your bell rung,” may sometimes actually be a sports-related concussion.

Concussions can occur in any sport or recreational activity at any age and usually do not involve a loss of consciousness. In fact, what used to simply be called “getting your bell rung,” may sometimes actually be a sports-related concussion. It is vital that all coaches, parents and athletes learn to recognize the signs and symptoms of concussions in sports and activity and what to do about it. This free “Chalk Talk” will be hosted at Sci-Tech Discovery Center.

Sci-Tech Discovery Center has brought their “mind stretching fun” to an important and informational free speaker series for families called “Chalk Talk.” The session on Saturday, July 23 concludes the series with a frank talk about concussions beginning at 6 p.m. Children registered will engage in STEM-related, hands-on activities led by the Sci-Tech staff, while parents enjoy an interactive conversation including information for all parents, coaches and athletes, led by FOX4’s Sports Director Mike Doocy.

This session, presented by Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Frisco and FOX4, will be led by Mark T. Barisa, Ph.D., ABPP-CN American Board of Neuropsychology and Health Psychology.
