If you haven’t checked out Downtown Plano lately, you don’t know what you’ve been missing. Over the years, Downtown Plano has seen its fair share of progression. From cosmetic updates to popular establishments, the historic arts district continues to move forward with the times and the trends. Downtown Plano has become a great place to live, shop, dine, sip and even get serenaded at the new McCall Plaza. Get up, get out and Explore Plano this month with the challenges below as we highlight Downtown Plano this week.

Take a stroll through history by visiting the Interurban Railway Museum next to Haggard Park. Learn about The Texas Electric Railway and the science behind how it worked. Both children and adults will want to get on board with the interactive tour featuring hands-on electrical displays and of course, the tour of Car 360. The Interurban Railway Museum is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. and Saturday from 1–5 p.m. Share your favorite photos of the museum by using hashtag #exploreplano.

Take a selfie at one of your favorite historic hot spots in Plano. There are a lot of prime places in Plano that make for great photo opps. Challenge yourself to visit some of the Downtown Plano Historic Arts District landmarks such as the DART mule sculpture, the Douglass mural and the Interurban Railcar. The history of these pieces of art can be just as interesting has the art itself. Did you know that artist Tom Askman created the life-size horse sculpture at the Downtown Plano DART rail station to reflect the “iron horse” trains that once passed through Plano on the Interurban line? Share with us your favorite historic Plano landmark by using hashtag #exploreplano.

Experience the sounds of summer at McCall Plaza. Attend any of the free concerts that are held the third Friday and Saturday night of each month. Rally up your buds and your besties and checkout some local musical talent right in the heart of Downtown Plano. Share a photo of yourself at one of the shows by using hashtag #exploreplano.

Check back next week as we highlight the City of Plano’s Stormwater, Sustainability and Environmental Education challenges. Next week’s challenges include spotting a mosquitofish, visiting the Nature Explore Classroom, picking up litter around your neighborhood, conducting a water quality test and more! As always, share your progress with us on social media with hashtag #exploreplano.
