This summer, the Children’s Chorus of Collin County will be featured at the International Children’s Choir Festival at Canterbury Cathedral and London, England!

In July of this summer, members of the Children’s Chorus of Collin County celebrate their tenth anniversary season by traveling to England. During the week of July 23–30, Collin County singers will join other choristers from around the world to participate in the International Children’s Choir Festival in Canterbury and London. These choirs will form the Festival Chorus, which will be led by conductors Henry Leck and David Flood. Henry Leck is America’s most renowned authority on Children’s voices, and is the founder and Artistic Director of the Indianapolis Children’s Choir, one of the largest and most successful Children’s Choral program in America. David Floor is Master of the Choristers at Canterbury Cathedral since 1988 and is regarded as one of the foremost trainers of children’s voices.

The Festival is centered around several Festival Choir events. On Tuesday evening, all participating choirs will gather in the 12th-century Quire of Canterbury Cathedral to sing the ancient service of Evensong. This service has taken place on this same spot every day for 1,400 years. On Wednesday evening, the Festival Chorus will sing a full concert at Canterbury Cathedral.

The Children’s Chorus of Collin County will also be featured in a solo concert in the Quire. Friday evening is the final concert of the Festival Chorus at the Southwark Cathedral in London with the Virtuosi of London Orchestra.

During the Canterbury portion of the week, the Chorus will enjoy wandering the medieval streets, while experiencing the ecclesiastical history, art, and architecture of this historic city. The later part of the tour will conclude in London with visits to the Tower of London, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, and other tourist hot spots, including a night out at the London Theater.

This event will provide memories for the singers and chaperones that will linger for a lifetime! And you and your children have the chance to participate! Auditions for the 2016–2017 Chorus season are now being scheduled. This year’s Chorus season has included collaborative performances with the Plano Civic Chorus, the Men of Note, The Texas Voices, Joslin Dsouza, the Plano Symphony, and the Dallas Symphony.

The Chorus tours regularly and has performed at New York’s famed Carnegie Hall twice. Last summer, the Youth Chorus participated in the New Orleans Crescent Choral Festival. Other regional Tours have included Branson, Missouri and San Antonio, Texas.

Their Spring Concert, “How Can I Keep from Singing?” will be presented Monday night, May 9, at the Eisemann Center for the Performing Arts. It will feature compositions that celebrate the joys of making music. Special Guest Artists will be several of the Winners of the Plano Symphony’s Young Artist Competition.
