This morning, City of Plano and KHYI 95.3 The Range hosted a press conference at Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve exposing new details about Texas Music Revolution (TMR), giving the audience a taste of what to expect. Over 40 City of Plano, Toyota, invited guests and media personnel, including local news stations, were in attendance.
“North Texas is the #1 media market for country [music] in the world,” stated Joshua Jones, General Manager of The Range, who was one of the original creators of this concert’s concept over 20 years ago. The idea behind TMR stemmed from the desire to showcase more Texas Country and Americana artists whose fans were falling in love with but had no opportunity to see them live in concert. Female artists of this genre were in abundance back then and Joshua and The Range team wanted to see more men get the opportunity to shine as well.
Although past artists such as Pat Green, Ray Wylie Hubbard, and Asleep at the Wheel, among many others, have played at TMR in past years, Joshua believes, “This is going to be the single biggest event in TMR history. It’s the first two-day festival and the first outdoor event.”
Joshua then makes the BIG REVEAL…Toyota Company is the official title sponsor. Now, we can call it TTMR (Toyota Texas Music Revolution)! And as a gift of gratitude, Joshua presented a signed Lee Ann Womack guitar to Steve Curtis, Vice President of Corporate Communications of Toyota.
“Two years ago when we decided to bring our headquarters to North Texas, we also wanted to become more involved in the communities we work with,” said Steve. One way Toyota is immersing into the community is through the company’s involvement with the arts and music scene, along with lots of volunteering. The City and The Range are excited for this new partnership.
Taylor Young, one member of the Americana Country duo The O’s, is on board with the partnership and the new location stating, “The thing that made TMR better is putting Toyota in front of it and bringing it out here [Oak Point].” Taylor and his band mate John Pedigo are from North Texas and will be playing in this year’s TTMR making it their sixth appearance at this concert. The O’s travel around the nation performing 158 shows this year, but always make it a point to perform at TTMR.
They took the stage today and sang two original songs bringing musical joy to the room.
In November 2015, an announcement was made that in its 20th-year run, TMR would be hosted in Plano for the first time. For about 16 of the 19 previous years, the concert was held inside at Southfork Ranch in Parker, Texas, just a few miles from the newly announced Oak Point Amphitheater location.
Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Ben Harris said it best, “Plano is cool…If you can’t find it in Plano, you don’t need it.”
