The many tornadoes that disrupted and dismantled our lives on December 26, 2015 was the worst disaster caused by tornadoes North Texas has seen in 88 years. Governor Greg Abbott declared a “state of disaster” in Dallas, Collin, Rockwall and Ellis Counties.

Here local Plano photographer Brandon Hurd shares with us a few photos of the aftermath, taken in Rowlett on the northside of Miller Rd.—between Chiesa Rd & Darlock Rd., as well as in Garland, just west of the I30/GBT exchange. [print_gllr id=3831]

“As I was driving through the impacted areas with my 15 month old Son (Griffin) asleep in the backseat, I couldn’t help, but feel an overwhelming sadness for those who lost everything, including loved ones. Seeing the devastation firsthand, was unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. You get a true sense of the “Power” that the tornado unleashed that evening, and how quickly everything can be taken away from you in the blink of an eye. One thing that did stand out to me while driving through the areas, was how so many people were volunteering to help those in need. Everywhere you looked there was someone lending a hand to help, which truly made me realize how ‘lucky’ or ‘Blessed’ we are to live in this great area!” Brandon told Plano Profile.
