If you live, work or play in Plano, it’s likely that The Shops at Willow Bend already ranks among your favorite places to shop. Well today, with a $100 million redevelopment and expansion in the works, The Shops of Willow Bend is set to become THE place to shop, eat, work and even stay.

The $100 million redevelopment plan for Willow Bend includes world-class shops and restaurants, a class-A office tower, a hotel, and a unique entertainment and hospitality district.

“Since their opening, The Shops at Willow Bend has worked to evolve with the community and the needs of the consumer,” said Plano Chamber of Commerce President/CEO Jamee Jolly. “Through the addition of home furnishings retailers to accommodate new growth in the area to the recent announcement of a new vibrant dining component, The Shops at Willow Bend is committed to being the go-to location for shopping and entertainment in North Texas.”

The expansion is set to begin in 2016 with the razing of the center’s 125,000-square foot former Saks Fifth Avenue building. In its place will be an addition designed for preeminent local, regional and national retailers and restaurants. The addition will also be the architectural focal point of the mall’s new main entrance. Facing the Dallas North Tollway, the entrance will be a highly visible, a vibrant welcoming façade that expresses a sense of arrival for people visiting The Shops at Willow Bend.

Additionally, Starwood’s Willow Bend expansion includes a modern hotel and a class-A office tower. While overall plans are in preliminary stages, the expansion is scheduled to open in phases from 2017 through 2019.

Jolly pointed out that it’s because of smart planning, The Shops at Willow Bend provides a unique shopping experience. “They are also engaged corporate citizens, as seen in their programming throughout the mall (The Salvation Army Angel Tree, Second Cup of Coffee educational programs hosted in partnership with The Medical Center of Plano, Concerts in the Courtyard, etc.),” she added. “We are fortunate to have the Starwood team at the local level participating in our community so that they can better understand the needs of the consumer, but also to ensure that they play a role in making Plano  and amazing place to live, work, play, and shop!”

When Starwood Retail Partners purchased the mall  in October 2014, the company saw the ongoing development in Plano and immediately recognized opportunities to enhance and improve Willow Bend to better serve the growing city’s needs. No doubt, this $100 million redevelopment plan will do exactly that.

“Starwood Retail Partners is so pleased to be in Plano; and we are delighted with the response we’ve received so far to enhance The Shops at Willow Bend’s already well-established shopping experiences,” said Scott Wolstein, CEO, Starwood Retail Partners. “Plano is experiencing terrific growth, and our vision for Willow Bend is in step with the city’s business, shopping and entertainment plans for the future.”
