preston pearson journey of hope

“No matter if you weigh 60 pounds or 260 pounds, tears weigh the same,” former Dallas Cowboys star Preston Pearson told children at a Journey of Hope support group. As Pearson shared stories of triumph on the football field, he also acknowledged that sometimes life must be faced with that same strength and courage—particularly after the loss of a loved one.

Nearly 100 participants, including adults and children, were enthralled with his stories, especially after he placed five diamond-studded NFL championship rings on a table and invited the kids to try them on. It was a fun way to begin an evening that would eventually turn serious.

The children were at First United Methodist Church in Plano on a Tuesday evening to share their own stories and get support from one another. The support group is hosted by Journey of Hope, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing group grief support to children, adolescents, and their parents or adult caregivers who have lost a loved one to death.

These gatherings are offered for free in a warm, caring, and nurturing environment where the feelings of grief, pain, and loss may be expressed. Made clear that the group offers support, not counseling, trained volunteer facilitators lead participants in their personal journey toward healing and healthy reconciliation of their grief.

On this particular evening, Journey of Hope staff and board members recognized generous sponsors of their 13th Annual Journey of Hope Celebrity Golf Classic & Dinner scheduled for Monday, November 9 at Cowboys Golf Club.

99.5 The Wolf is the presenting sponsor. Several sponsors were on hand to make “big check” presentations. Sponsors include several local Walmart stores, True Results, Armor Wealth Management, Scott + Reid General Contractors, Inc., Marsha Clark & Associates, Park Place Mercedes Grapevine, and Reliable Chevrolet/Richardson.

Celebrity players joining Preston Pearson are Doug Donley, John Niland, DD Lewis, Mike Renfro, Bill Joe Dupree, Ira Terrell, Ivan (Pudge) Rodriguez and Ed (Too Tall) Jones.
