The second annual Dallas Is Lit! Literary Festival is set to make its grand return to the North Texas city from May 13-19, 2024.

The week-long event, which will be happening in the Dallas neighborhood of Oak Cliff, is a yearly celebration of the "words, ideas, community and creativity" that make up literary works, according to The Writer’s Garret — the independent literary center behind the event.

This year's festival will feature numerous workshops, readings and performances, including the big marquee event: Iluminado: In Conversation with Javier Zamora.

“We are thrilled to bring Javier Zamora to Oak Cliff,” said Claudia Vega, founder of Whose Books and executive director of ARCO, who is co-sponsoring Zamora’s appearance. “His memoir, Solito, is profound and speaks to the journey of many in our community. This conversation can help us understand, empathize and bridge gaps that might divide us."

Other highlights of this year's festival include a book and author fair showcasing local creatives, an immersive rom-com literary brunch, drag story time, a bookmaking workshop for kids, a poetry and zazz" event, as well as the 30th Annual Dallas Poetry Slam (one of the longest-running poetry slams in the region), among others.

Following the success of last year's festival, Executive Director of the event Aaron Glover said that he hopes to continue making a positive impact on the local literary art scene in year two of Dallas is Lit!

“Dallas Is Lit! was conceived as a way to broaden the conversation about the literary arts in our city,” said Glover. “The positive response we received during the first festival confirmed that our community wants to keep the conversation going, and we’re excited to help make that happen. We can’t wait to see everyone for what promises to be a dynamic week of literary activities.”
