Dallas-based architectural firm HKS is running a free exhibit at Galleria to combat climate change and social disparities. The fashion on display is made of completely recycled materials.

Through Trashion, they creatively repurpose everyday materials into unique garments, showcasing how design can address global environmental and social issues.

The 2024 edition of Trashion revolves around the theme of the elements: water, air, earth and fire. Garments are required to either withstand the elements, reflect the interplay between fashion and nature, or embody one of the elemental forces.

The materials used in Trashion creations must also be at least 90% reused or repurposed, in order to showcase the fusion of sustainability and style.

“Galleria Dallas is committed to green initiatives and is proud to be an IREM Certified Sustainable Property,” Galleria Dallas Director of Marketing Megan Townsend said in an official statement. “Partnering with HKS on its Trashion Show initiative aligns with both our environmental initiatives and our commitment to showcasing the local creative community.”

The exhibit is free and open now through June 23, located on level one next to Tommy Bahama and Sephora.

HKS is the design firm behind many of North Texas’ developments. Currently, the firm is designing Scottish Rite’s Frisco facility expansion. The estimated construction cost is $3.3 million and is expected to be complete by January 2025.

The firm is also working on a luxury retirement community expansion in Plano. The design by HKS features low-density, condominium-style buildings, offering corner views in every unit to optimize natural light and scenic surroundings.
